So it never ceases to amaze me how different Daniel and Hannah can be! She is so much like me, and he is so much like Brent at times. This video clip says it all...notice how Daniel zooms down the slip 'n slide like nothing at all. And then notice how carefully Hannah manuevers her way down in the safest possible manner! When I talk with them on the phone (they are still at Grandpa and Grandma's house) the slip 'n slide seems to be a favorite thing to play with so I imagine Hannah has gotten more daring as she's gotten used to it. I despise anything where I'm not stable and on sound footing. I don't like to rollerskate, skateboard, rollerblade...nothing where I'm out of control, I don't even like to run and slide on the ice like most people do...I perfected the penguin walk! She is so much like me, it's scary! I remember going down our slip 'n slide the exact same way as a kid, but I never got brave enough to just throw myself down face first onto a slippery wet piece of plastic!

Sarah had her first bites of cereal tonight and she loved it! I know this will come as a surprise to those of you have seen her recently, but she really does like to eat! Her tiny thighs and skinny arms will attest to that :-) And for those of you who haven't seen her recently, I'm totally speaking tongue-in-cheek--she clearly has no problem eating! :-)

I found this posted on facebook and thought it was hysterical...but I do want to praise the Lord and also clarify at the same time that Brent is not like this! I am continually reminded that he doesn't fit the typical stereotype of guys as much I fit the typical girl sterotype! But it is funny nonetheless! Enjoy:-)

At last a guy has taken the time to write this all down Finally, the guys' side of the story.
(I must admit, it's pretty good.) We always hear "the rules" from the female side. Now here are the rules from the male side.
These are our rules! Please note... these are all numbered "1" ON PURPOSE!

1. Men are NOT mind readers.
1. Learn to work the toilet seat. You're a big girl. If it's up, put it down.
We need it up, you need it down. You don't hear us complaining about you leaving it down.
1. Sunday sports. It's like the full moon or the changing of the tides. Let it be.
1. Shopping is NOT a sport And no, we are never going to think of it that way.
1. Crying is blackmail.
1. Ask for what you want. Let us be clear on this one:
Subtle hints do not work! Strong hints do not work! Obvious hints do not work! Just say it!
1. Yes and No are perfectly acceptable answers to almost every question.
1. Come to us with a problem only if you want help solving it. That's what we do. Sympathy is what your girlfriends are for.
1. A headache that lasts for 17 months is a Problem. See a doctor.
1. Anything we said 6 months ago is inadmissible in an argument. In fact, all comments become null and void after 7 Days.
1. If you won't dress like the Victoria 's Secret girls, don't Expect us to act like soap opera guys.
1. If you think you're fat, you probably are. Don't ask us.
1. If something we said can be interpreted two ways and one of them makes you sad or angry, then we meant the other one
1. You can either ask us to do something Or tell us how you want it done. Not both.
If you already know best how to do it, just do it yourself.

1. ALL men see in only 16 colors, like Windows default settings. Peach, for example, is a fruit, not A color. Pumpkin is also a fruit. We have no idea what mauve is.

We know you are lying, but it is just not worth the hassle, besides we know you will bring it up again later.

I smell like my Grandma!!!

It always amazes me how a smell can immediately transport us to another place and another time and evoke such memories with a simple whiff. I was painting our front porch the other day when Daniel walked up, smelled the paint fumes, and said, "That smells like our basement in Chicago!" He had helped me paint a corner of our basement for his classroom. Everytime I use a certain kind of spray starch on Brent's shirts, I can picture standing in front of the ironing board at the home of a kind lady I ironed for while I was in high school.

I had another one of those moments today. I found a great website, familyfun.com, that has a TON of great ideas for things to do with your kids. (also found the subscription to their magazine, a favorite of mine, for only $10 on the website!) So I'm all inspired to start spending more time doing fun things with my kids. We came home today from our mom's day out at the park, and I decided it was time to put some feet to my inspirations. I opened up a bar of Ivory soap that I had stopped at the store and bought for this craft, and my brain conjured up all these pictures of my grandma, who only used Ivory soap...for everything!!! She constantly smelled like Ponds and Ivory. The craft included grating a bar of Ivory and blending equal parts of shavings with lukewarm water and mixing it with an electric mixer for about 5 minutes. It comes out the consistency of shaving cream that you can color with food coloring. The kids used it to fingerpaint on our sliding glass doors. I had to show them how to do it so we were all up to our elbows in it by the time we were done. So now...I smell like my grandma! She's died many years ago, but I've been reminiscing about all the sweet times we had at her house. I was her favorite...everyone will tell you it's true...she taught me to play the piano, crochet, and sew, too...all the things I found incredibly interesting that no one else seemed to care for. I walked out of my room to answer the phone and was hit by this wave of food from the crock pot and Ivory soap...it was like walking into my grandma's front door!

I do have to wonder however amidst all the reminiscing if my next post will show me crying in frustration as I try to get all the soap off the windows! :0)

Da-da-da-da-Dora!

We had Hannah's hair cut yesterday...she wanted it long so we could put it up in pigtails, ponytails, and braids--she's all girl for sure! But it was just getting scraggly. I think it was all the tangles that pushed her over the edge, too! So we decided short is better for her! Her hair is pretty when it's long, but really cute when it's short...we decided she looks like Dora now! She was so funny...all day long she walked around looking at herself in any and every reflection saying, "I love my hair!" These girlie things are so innate it's scary!

Really...we do have a life...I think...

Honestly...we do other things than just sit and take pictures of Sarah...although I can't seem to think of any right now! So just a couple more pics to show everyone how much she's changing and starting to do things! She loves her exersaucer and the toys on it...she's picking up rattles now and actually playing with them. She's also getting really good at doing push-ups when she's on her tummy. Although her form is not quite perfect, she does a great job of getting her head up straight!

For every great picture you get, there's at least 10 that are like this one! Especially when it comes to babies! I'm so glad we have our digital camera so we don't have to pay for pics that turn out like this...although this one might be a good one to keep for those times when we'll need funny pictures of her for those special Senior Graduation presentations!

I have started putting her in the exersaucer now and then...she likes it for the most part...she's really starting to play with things so the toys in front of her on the tray are a real draw. I can't believe how quickly time has flown by...she's pushing 4 months already!

It's 78 degrees here today! I've pushed the kids outside and am getting some spring cleaning done...although there are those nay-sayers who will always add that we have had snow as late as June before...I'm trying not to think of that...it's 78 and I'm loving it!

Just an update on how the kiddos are looking...nothing too exciting going on here. We're finally having some spring-like weather so Daniel and Hannah are outside almost all the time! We're finishing up our school work this next week --needless to say, Daniel's ecstatic about that! Sarah's doing really well--sleeping between 12-13 hours at night! I think maybe, just maybe, she's slowing down when it comes to gaining weight. She's not getting any heavier at least! And I do have to say that she's the happiest of all 3 of our babies. She only fusses if she's hungry or sleepy! I'm telling you...she's turning out more and more like me! :0)

She's my little flower child!

What would I do without my man? What a huge help he is to me! The Lord knows that some women have it all together and don't need any help around the house and with the kids, and then the Lord knows, too, that He created me to need Brent! How I love him! :-)


So I bought this sweet little dress for Sarah off of Ebay, and it came with a matching hat! I love hats on babies, but I don't have too many! Several people commented on how much Sarah looked like a little flower in her hat!

Notice how squishy those arms are getting? There's a reason for that...I took her back to the doctor this past Friday for a final check to make sure the wheezing was gone from her lungs...she's all better and a pound heavier! The girl gained a whole pound in one week! She was 16 pounds 6 ounces! The doctor and I were just laughing at it all! She's getting more and more rolls on her arms and legs everyday! That's my girl!

I miss signing!

One of the perks of interpreting for the deaf is that you really have to pay attention! I was reminded of this last night during the song part of our Wednesday evening prayer meeting. It's so easy to go on auto pilot and sing the words and never even pay attention to them. But when you're signing, you really have to focus on the words so you can sign their meaning.

I was struck by the words to "A Mighty Fortress is our God" as we sang them last night. I noticed how poetic they are and how easy it is to focus on this particular tune and skim right pass the wonderful message. I typed them out in stanza format and it was much easier to see the whole thought. So I've been meditating on them this morning and how our Lord really is our fortress that we can run to. Praise the Lord for the wonderful reminder that He is supreme and will quench the devil! Just a few musings from somewhere in the depths of a frazzled mom's mind! :-)

She's definitely a Griffin!

I took Sarah to the doctor this past week for her 2 month well-baby check up. Yes, we're a bit late on this, but at least we made it before she was 3 months, heh?!? I knew she was growing, but I had no idea she was GROWING!!! She's 15 pounds--95th percentile, and 24 inches--80th percentile. She's definitely a Griffin Baby! Her arms are my favorite...they're so squishable! Makes you just want to sit and squeeze them...like the old commercial, "Please don't squeeze the Charmin!" I just want to know when it changes--why are her thighs so adorable, but I can't stand mine?!? :-)

I knew that Sarah had picked up my cold...nursing is a great thing for the immune system, except that I can't tell you how many times I sneezed on her while I was nursing...it can only ward off so much! But I was surprised when the doctor told me her lungs were wheezing! So I had to go get a nebulizer and Albuterol for it and give her breathing treatments 4 times a day since Wednesday. She's better now, and I'm glad the Darth Vader days are over for now!

Easter

Sarah slept the entire morning...even through all the jostling around on Daniel's lap during the photo shoot! Check out those "squishy arms!" I love to squeeze them!

Daniel is a great help...and he loves holding Sarah. Until she spits up and then he sits there and yells until I get it cleaned up! Spit-up attack! Spit-up attack!

I had to do some things at church this morning for the Easter breakfast. I did Hannah's hair before I left, but when I arrived back at home to pick everyone up...Brent had everyone ready to go...which meant giving Sarah her bath and dressing the girls in their fru-fru matching outfits! He's such a great daddy to our children, but an amazing husband as well! Many dads I know would scoff at helping me as much as he does! I'm not surprised he had it all together...he's just like that! My love tank was overflowing this morning as I thought about how much he is willing to help! Some men are lost without their wives...Brent just jumps in and does what needs to be done! Praise the Lord for bringing us together. It is such an amazing way to see the verse, "As for God, His way is perfect..." played out in real life!

Matching Babies

It's hard to believe that my first baby girl is so big, but it's quite obvious when she's sitting next to my other baby girl! Grandma Kelley gave Hannah matching outfits for her and Sarah for Hannah's birthday. She turned 5 about a month after Sarah was born and was so intent on getting matching outfits so she and Sarah could look alike! There's a little turtle and tulips along the heline of Hannah's shirt...the lime green socks are our favorite, though, with little turtles on the sides! They were such a hit that I'm making matching Easter dresses and just found another set of matching dresses on Ebay for them! I'm doing my best to leave Daniel out of the matchy-matchy thing, but it won't be easy!

My new wallpaper for my desktop

I've been playing around with some new plug-ins (thanks, Tricia!) that were free on the internet. This picture of Sarah sleeping turned out so sweet...I put it on my desktop as my wallpaper...this adorable face covers my entire screen! I think I'm going to try to do similar ones with my other kids...who will obviously be awake...and get them blown up for our new bedroom. I might play around with it some more and see if I can get one that's just as sweet with her awake...we'll see what happens!

There's nothing exciting really about this clip...no spit-up attacks at the end...just something so the family can see how much Sarah's growing and changing. She does smile and coo quite a bit on it, but nothing else...just my sweetie!

Tummy Time Trouble

I always put Sarah in the middle of this contraption when it's "tummy time," and somehow she always manages to end up like this! She wriggles and scootches herself off the mat all the time! I hope this is not a foreshadowing of how active she's going to be once she gets mobile!
